Possible sadist, with high aggression; however, the most obvious issue with this subject is his oft-stated need to be a “big man,” and his impulsive eating, pointing to an abusive childhood and a deep-seated fear of being belittled. The manner in which he objectifies his enemies, whilst simultaneously humanizing objects he has grown attached to, has unfortunate implications. He is entirely devoted to his job: he’s been turned into a machine, and he enjoys his status as such.

Assuming the OP meant “mentally-retarded” as a synonym for “mentally-deficient”, then OP is wrong as fuck.

edit: Also, as my boyfriend just reminded me, the Heavy has a PHD IN RUSSIAN LITERATURE.

The way I figured it, the mental defect was not in Heavy’s ability to function, but in how he functions. Going by the analysis, it’s considered a defect to objectify one’s self and others to the degree seen in Heavy. Yes, Heavy is an intelligent person. He also does not appear to view himself as a person; his devotion to utility warping his values to the point where his tools of trade (his guns) are seen as more identifiable than the people around him, whom he can kill without hesitation.

Think of it like a car that leaks air-conditioning fumes into the cabin. The car moves, turns, and stops finely, but there is nonetheless something seriously wrong with it.

Q:One more thing: based on some of the things that I have read it seems as though the TF2 team are close to each other. Do you believe that this is the case? How do you think their relationship would really be like?

See, now you’re getting into friendshipping, which… I am totally all about, so let’s get to it!

Pyro ♦ Engineer: The comics paint a picture of these two being close, with the Homewrecker and Respectless Rubber Glove pretty much cementing it. My guess is that Dell sees Pyro as being just a big kid, or maybe even a big dog; judging from the story-time of the Smissmas update, and Dell letting Pyro keep the glove they stole.

They got along famously for 20+ years, so I can only assume that Engie’s murderous pet-friend and he never have too much trouble. How others look at the two may be the roughest part of their relationship, but I’m betting that folk look at it like Dell adopting a special-needs kid, once they get used to it.

Heavy ♦/♥ Medic: One wants to take control, the other wants to latch onto a controlling person. It may not be healthy, but it sure is stable. Going by the report, Medic’s romantic feelings may be one-sided (stopping the imaginations of no one). It’s cute how they’re both nervous around Soldier because of their nationalities.

In the long run, I imagine it would be fine for Heavy, but frustrating for Medic; since I’m not sure how “attached” Heavy will let him get, due to personal boundaries or outright obliviousness.

Soldier ♦ Demoman: This is so canon it hurts, and just as sad. Not only do they now hate each other, their relationship is even more dangerous than Heavy/Medic: one’s insane, one hates themself, but they both enable the other’s brokenness because of the outward similarity of it. It’s like drug-friends, except they kill other people.

I’ve seen how drug-friends get along, over time. I’m not hopeful, here. Looking at how easily they were torn apart to begin with, there’s no way Soldier’s mania would be fun for the more adjusted Tavish forever.

Spy + Heavy ♦ Pauline: Spy and Heavy seem to be the only two people that Pauline would actually enjoy working with. Mundy has only ever sounded cranky, and Dell seems to be a loner that the higher-ups deal with more than she does.

Uh, I kinda broke into a tangent, didn’t I?

SHORT ANSWER: yes, I think a few of the mercenaries have developed more than a professional friendship, but only my boy Dell’s smart enough to make it work in the long haul.

Q:I really love your psychological analyses of the TF2 characters. I was actually wondering what their mental issues were, since I have read many times that they all have issues but, with exception of the obviously mentally ill characters, there wasn't hints as to what all of their problems were.
